Australian Christians is unashamed of being a voice for Christian values in the public square. Sometimes we are asked, shouldn’t religion be kept out of politics?
In fact, as the Constitution was being drafted, Alfred Deakin prayed that the move towards Federation “may be the means of creating and fostering throughout all Australia a Christ-like Citizenship.”

In post-Christian nations like Australia, you don’t have to look far to see evidence of a growing identity crisis. We have lost our sense of transcendent meaning right when we need it most, with the pressures of modern life piling up around us.

Where do we go for our sense of worth and purpose as human beings?

Two of the most striking takeaways from Australia’s 2021 census results are the rise in single parents families and the decline of religious adherence. Both findings highlight the pressing need for parties such as Australian Christians to represent faith values in the political sphere.

Of course, abortion can be a sensitive issue for all sorts of reasons. Among the most obvious: there are women in our midst burdened by guilt for a decision they made to abort their baby. Sometimes these decisions have been made in extremely difficult circumstances, even under duress.

But as Christians, we carry a gospel of forgiveness and reconciliation. Christ died for these sins just as he died for all others, and he welcomes all who repent into his arms of love, where our shame is swallowed up and we can walk in newness of life.

This Saturday, millions of Australians will head to the polls to decide which policies — and politicians — will guide our nation forward over the coming three years. As a party, the Australian Christians have planned, publicised and prayed with the goal of seeing our candidates in office, and godly values promoted in Australia.
Now, as the outcome is decided, we hold unswervingly to the truth that God is sovereign and that He will bring about His good purposes over the weekend. And we trust that good fruit will come from our labours, and for every party and candidate seeking to promote righteousness in our nation.

It is true that Jesus said nothing to his followers about seeking political office. Our mandate as Christians is to fulfill the Great Commission — to make disciples, to be salt and light, to share the gospel and the love of Christ.

But notice that Jesus never divided the world into “sacred” and “secular” spheres. He calls us to be salt and light in all aspects of life and human society. This includes politics. Shaping policy is an important way that Christians obey Jesus’ call to disciple the nations and teach them to obey everything He has commanded.

Let’s join together in peace and solidarity at WA Parliament to uphold the dignity of all lives from conception to natural death, and remember 200,000 WA lives lost to legalised abortion since 1998. Despite the situation, let’s LOVE THEM BOTH.

We see a clear distinction between free speech and robust filters for pornography, since porn isn’t speech, and it certainly isn’t art. Like smoking, drugs and other social ills, the harms of porn are clear — especially to children.

We invite you to Vote 1 Australian Christians for serious action on this urgent issue. Not all freedom sets us free. Some freedom in fact leaves us and our children in chains.

Aussies are known for their laid-back approach to politics. But with so many Important issues at stake this year — whether the sanctity of life, the rights of families, or civic freedoms like freedom of speech and freedom of religion — it is vital that we understand our electoral system so we can really make our vote count.

Our prayer is that the Australian Christians will form part of the cross bench. From that place of influence, we hope God will use us to protect and advance Christian values, freedoms and principles in our nation, for the good of all Australians.
